Pro Prediction Reveal

The time has come to see our future failures.

s
Super Bowl Champions

Our Superbowl predictions were represented by 3 NFC teams and 2 AFC teams

The Steelers (for the first time ever) were the leading team in Football God with 5 predictions.  That brings out big time Big Ben Rapelisberger face.

The Arizona Cardinals were close behind with 4.  Other than that we had 1 each for the Packers, the Pats, and the Panthers.

In the Superbowl participants the Steelers also led the way with 9 people picking them to represent the AFC.  The only three that didn't have them were Myself, Hale, and Folden all with New England.

In the NFC it's more of a mixed bag.  Four people had Arizona in the Superbowl, three Carolina, three Greenbay, and two Seattle.

The AFC & NFC Championship game losers are a mixed bag of those 6 teams, with the exception of Hale and Eplin having Denver as the AFC Championship game loser.

DIVISION WINNERS

Half the divisions this year are piss pour diarrhea as far as parody goes.

The divisions highlighted in yellow are the AFC & NFC north, the AFC East and the NFC South.  Everyone chose the Panthers, Packers, Pats, and Steelers for obvious reasons, so let's move on from there.

AFC SOUTH

This was pretty even across the way, with 6 people choosing Houston and 5 Luck, and the Brocks.
people choosing Indi.  I chose Jacksonville, and while Jalen Ramsey, Blake Bortles, and I are cigars with lit $100 bills laughing, the rest of you chumps can enjoy your picks of the ultimate fuck faced Andrew

In other news, Andrew Luck was named the most butt ugly human on earth for the 25th year in a row.

AFC WEST
Geiss's Marbles

Most people took KC in the NFL's first Peyton Manningless season.  Three people took Denver, which I stayed away from.  Mainly because they're starting a guy at QB who I've never even heard of.  That's a rare feat.  Geiss stepped up big and had the balls to take the Oakland Raiders.  Love the ballsy pick.  Most people probably considered it at some point, I know I did.

The NFC EAST

I assume that this division was probably more varied before Tony Romo crumpled to the ground in a fit of lady-like back pain, but 3 people still managed to pull the trigger on them.  Most people rolled the dice on the Giants, which is fine.  A couple of people took Washington too.

Truth is the NFC East is pretty much just a war of which team can fuck up the least.  It's basically just pull up your jock, go out there and try not to fuck up.  Nothing glamorous,  nothing sexy, just don't fuck up.  Probably lead to Eli and his dumb fetus face getting another Super Bowl ring somehow.

God I hate his fucking face.  His stupid fucking faggot face.

NFC SOUTH

7 votes for Seattle, 5 for Arizona.  Amazingly 4 people have Arizona winning the Superbowl and only 1 more has them winning their own division.  People are either very hot or very cold on them this year.

AFC WILDCARDS

The Wildcards are all over the place this year, here is the breakdown.

CINCI 5
BAL 4
DEN 4
OAK 3
JACK 2
TEN 2
KC 1
HOU 1
NYJ 1
IND 1

That's 10 different teams represented, no team having more than 5 picks.

So who are the losers who noone picked?  Let's have a quick in memorium for the jerk offs.

NFC WILDCARDS

The NFC Wildcard isn't as varied as the AFC but still  has a few in there.

Arizona 6
Tampa Bay 5
Minnesota 5
Seattle 4
Washington 2
Atlanta  1
Dallas 1

Only 7 teams are represented here.

Here are the sorry sacks of shit that got no love from any of us this year.

That's New Orleans at their best.

Today while I was driving to the gym I saw an old woman (70+) wearing a custom St. Louis Rams jersey that said #11 Rock Solid on the back.

That was cool.

Obv, I'm not going to go through the individual awards and the other shit, because I'm tired and horny.

See yinz at the draft later.

Let's have a blast this year!

College Prediction Reveal

Thanks to everyone for getting your college picks in.  Now I'm going to make fun of them.  The easiest way to view this is to pull up a 2nd web browser and put them next to each other.

National Championship:

We had 6 people chose Alabama in the obvious pick of every year selection.  Three people choosing Clemson, two choosing Oklahoma, and our returning champion Jim picking Ohio State.

Our runners up were more varied.  3 selections for Florida State, 2 for Alabama, 2 for Clemson, 3 for LSU.  Jim took Alabama, and Gary took Stanford.

Only one of us had the balls to pick a team outside of the preseason top 10 to finish in our final four.

So, I'm going to review/roast each person's picks from here on out.

EPLIN

I really enjoy Eplin's picks this year.  He was the only person that had the balls to keep Alabama out of the final four.  And he's the only person that will certainly not get any points when Alabama definetely wins the SEC and makes the College Football playoff.

Eplin's final four consists of Michigan, Florida State, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.  I think Eplin thought we were doing the College Football Playoff for the 1999 season.

Eplin also took UCLA to win the PAC-12.  He's the only person that made this pick.

Eplin basically moved to Tennessee a year ago and has bought into the hometown hype.  if he had moved to Charlotte, he'd have the Charlotte 49er winning the Sunbelt and in the College Football Playoff.

Eplin was also the only person to chose Baker Mayfield to win the Heisman.  I don't trust anyone whose first name is the same as a profession.  That's like someone being named Accountant Smith, or Locksmith Johnson.

In any case, his picks are risky but i like it.  Good luck homey.

MUNEZ

Munez basically bet the house on LSU this year.  He has Leonard Fournette winning the Maxwell, Doak Walker, and Heisman award.  He has Les Miles winning the Coach of the Year.  He has LSU losing the national championship, and in the final four.  And he has the SEC being won by...Alabama?  Seriously?  Let me check that again.

....

Yep, Munez has LSU winning just about everything except their own conference.

Munez also has what I think is the BALLSIEST pick of the year, picking Clemson to be the TOP 10 team that falls out of the top 25.

Balls to the Walls.

These two had the most interesting picks of everyone, so the rest will be much shorter.

ADAM

About 2 weeks ago I sat down and went through my final four.  I ended up with Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, and Oklahoma.  I thought I was so clever.  "Noone will think of this,"  I thought.  Then I looked up the Coaches Poll and saw the top 4.

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Oklahoma
4. Florida State

Way to go Adam, you really got 'em.

My picks are pretty much that way all the way down.

Chalk, chalk, chalk.

I bet big on Florida State though, having them lose the national Championship, and having Dalvin Cook win both the Heisman and Doak Walker.

JIM

Our returning champion came in with a couple of interesting picks.  He's the only person that has Ohio State winning the National Championship.  The only person with TCU winning the Big 12.  And one of only three to have Stanford in the final four.

He is one of two with Leonard Fournette winning the Heisman.

VOYTEN

Voyten's big bold pick this year is having Iowa win the Big 10 and finish in the final four.  That's the lowest ranked team that anybody has in there.

Voyten also rest heavy on Florida State like me, having them in the finals, and having Dalvin cook winning the Heisman and Doak Walker.

FOLDEN

Folden made a lot of picks similar to the rest of us.  There isn't really much that sticks out from his.

JOE:  Ditto to Folden's

COLIN

Colin brought a couple of interesting picks to the party.  One of the only 3 people to pick Michigan and LSU.  Colin also picked Miami to finish the highest in the top 25, which was the only person to pick that.

GEISS

Geiss was the only person taht took Bowling Green to win the MAC...So that's neat.

ROB:

Rob took Florida State to finish out of the Top 25.  Cool.

HALE:

Hale took Oklahoma to win the National Championship.  Apparently, he hasn't watched Bob Stoops coach a big game since 2002.

GARY:

Gary made picks too.

FOOTBALL GOD IX PARTICIPANTS & PREDICTIONS

Welcome to the annual introduction to the Football God participants.  Here are this years' faggots and list of Former Champions.

Football God Championship History

2008:  Folden
2009: Adam
2010: Folden
2011: Shawn
2012: Adam
2013: Joe
2014: Joe
2015: Jim
2016:  Bort?

LAST YEAR'S MONEY WINNERS

2015 Football God Champion:  Jim Rowing

2008: 3rd
2009: 6th
2010: 4th
2011: 3rd
2012: 9th
2013: 5th
2014: 5th
2015: 1st

After years of 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths, Jim finally got over the hump and won the Championship last year. Jim took a dominant fantasy season and a stellar performance in the Preseason Predictions and led that to victory.

And, to be honest, it wasn't even close.  Jim won by more than 50 points overall.  The big storyline for him is obvious, can he repeat?

2015 Runner-Up:  Adam Johnson

2008: 4th
2009: 1st
2010: 2nd
2011: 8th
2012: 1st
2013: 7th
2014: 6th
2015: 2nd

After a couple of middling years, I came in 2nd in 2015.  This was mostly because of the bonus that came with winning the Survival Pool.  If it wasn't for that I would have finished in 4th, out of the money.  However, 2 firsts and 2 runners up are pretty good.  That would be the most total top 2 finishes in the league.

2015 3rd Place:  Colin Reilly

2009: 9th
2011: 10th
2012: 2nd
2013: 2nd
2014: 7th
2015: 3rd

After a rough start, Colin has turned into a perennial contender.  He's sort of the Buffalo Bills of our league, finishing in the money year after year, but not able to get over the hump.  Considering Colin lives in Buffalo, I think his best chance of ever winning the league is to move back to Pittsburgh, where we trip over Lombardi Trophies in the street.

2 Time Champion:  Anthony Folden

2008: 1st
2009: 3rd
2010: 1st
2011: 9th
2012: 3rd
2013: 8th
2014: 11th
2015: 4th

Folden  was the winner of the 1st and 3rd Football God, like Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania.  And like Hulk Hogan, he won't go away and I hate his guts.

I kid.  Folden took some varied finishes over the last few years and finished on the money bubble in 4th.  Folden's has a history of either being near the top or near the bottom.  He takes big swings and either connects or misses.  Expect more of the same this year as he looks for his 3rd championship.

2 Time Champion:  Joe McLane

2009: 5th
2010: 5th
2011: 2nd
2012: 4th
2013; 1st

2014: 1st
2015: 5th

Joe has hands down been the most consistently successful person in this league over the years.  2 championships, a runner up, and 4 other finishes in the top half of the standings.  Joe's always drafting well, predicting well, and pick'eming well...That's a word...

2011 Champion:  Shawn Voyten

2009: 2nd
2010: 8th
2011: 1st
2012: 8th
2013: 6th
2014: 8th
2015: 8th

Shawn's basically fallen in love with 8th place.  In his 7 years of Football God participating, he's finished in 1st, 2nd, 6th.  Other than that he has four 8th place finishes.  Predicting him to finish anywhere other than 8th seems foolish.  But, Shawn's finally not picked against Alabama in College Football, so it looks like he may have learned his lesson and i ready to move back up in the standings.

Daniel Geissler

2008: 2nd
2009: 7th
2010: 9th
2011: 6th
2014: 9th
2015: 9th

Geiss has the same affinity for 9th as Shawn does for 8th.  After a runner-up in the first year of Football God, it's been tough sledding.  Three 9ths in the last four years is calling out for a big year.  Also, Geiss is the last founder of the league who is still looking for a Championship.

Chris Coldsmith (Munez)

2009: 4th
2011:  11th
2012: 6th
2013: 9th
2014: 4th
2015: 10th

Munez  is always flying around the standings.  It's hard to predict year in and year out how bold his predictions will take him.  Last year they hurt him.  He's still looking for his first championship or cash.  Last year he was the only one who predicted Houston to win the AFC South when the rest of us had Indi in or around the Super Bowl.  A few predictions like that this year will get him up higher in the finishers.

Rob Klingensmith

2009:  10th
2012: 7th
2013: 3rd
2014: 2nd
2015: 7th

Last year, Rob finished out of the money for the first time since 2012.  He finished in 7th last year, but was only about 30 points out of 4th.  He'll look to rebound from that and finish a little higher this year.

Gary Yingst

2014: 3rd
2015: The John McLane

Gary took a stellar debut and used that momentum to nose dive into last place. Gary tanked some at the end to secure himself the first pick, which pretty much led to future rule changes.  So let's see if Gary's 2015 strategy leads to a positive 2016.

David Eplin

2015: 6th

Eplin took his first year in the league and settled into the middle.  Now that he knows how things works we may see a jump in the standings.  If his college predictions are any indication, sink or swim, he certainly isn't afraid to take chances.

Expansion Team

Chris Hale:

Chris Hale is a robotic fantasy expert, whose dry humor and calm demeanor are hard to interpret when you're hammered drunk.  Nobody knows where he comes from or where he's going, or if he even actually exists.

2016 Top 3 Predictions

#1  Rob
#2 Voyten
#3 Geiss

No reason inparticular.  Just going on gut.  8==============D

Football God IX Rules

Welcome back to another year of Hot Carl's brought to you by Your's Truly.  I'm mixing it up a little bit this year, so get ready for the the Thunder!

First off, here is how you win Football God.

You need to have the most cumulative points between these different categories.

Fantasy Football
College Weekly Pick'em
Pro Weekly Pick'em
Preseason Predictions
Survivor Pool
Bowl Pick'em

2016 Changes

There are going to be some new points systems this year.  Mainly if you win something.

Survivor Pool, College Pick'em, Pro Pick'em, Fantasy Football

1st place - 60 bonus points
2nd place - 40 bonus points
3rd place- 20 bonus points.

How is this different from last year?

Last year, Fantasy playoffs were worth 20 points a win, so you would still get 60 points for a fantasy championship, and 40 for second.  What we're taking out is the 20 points for winning your first round game.  That way the 3rd place game is actually meaningful.

College Pick'em, Pro Pick'em and the Survivor pool were only bonus points to the winner, the pick'em is such a grind throughout the year, it's almost unfair to only get bonus points if you win.

2017 Change (Heads Up)

To dissuade people from tanking at the end of the year, starting next season, the team that finishes in 4th place in the total overall standings, will have the first pick in the draft next season.  You don't win any money, but it at least rewards your for having a fine season.

The draft next year will go

#1 4th place
#2 5th
#3 6th
...
#9 Last place
#10 3rd place
#11 2nd place
#12 Champion

The draft this year will go reverse order of last years standings.

#1 Gary
#2 Munez
#3 Geiss
#4Voyten
#5 Rob
#6 Eplin
#7 Joe
#8 Folden
#9 Colin
#10 Adam
#11 Jim

I'll do a random drawing to pick where Hale picks in between here.

Pro & College Pick'em

You receive one point for each game you predict correctly.  College is done with the ranked teams against the spread, pros is straight up.  There is a weekly bonus given to the team with the highest total points between both pros and college of 10 points.  If there is a tie, everyone receives the full bonus.  The weeks where only one of the two leagues is playing results in a 5 point bonus.

At the end of the season if two people are tied in one of the pick'ems.  They will divide the points equally (i.e tied for 1st and 2nd would result in each person getting a 50 point bonus instead of 60 and 40)

Bowl Pick'em

The bowl pick'em is against the spread.  You receive 2 points for each correct bowl prediction.  5 points for the New year's 6 bowls.  And 10 points for the Championship game.

However,  new to this year.  The person with the most overall correct predictions will win the 25 point bonus.  Make sure that you do the tiebreaker this year, as a tie in the overall standings will result in Yahoo! Tie breaker coming into play.

The bonus in the Bowl Pick'em will be

1st 30 points
2nd 20 points
3rd 10 points

NEW PREDICTIONS

This year we're going to do a Coaches Fired prediction.  The way this works, you pick 3 coaches that you think will be fired this year with the cutoff being Black Monday (the day following the last week of the regular season).

It may take me a couple of weeks to get out the template.  So, here are the individual awards that we're going to predict

College.
1. Heisman Trophy
2. AP coach of the year
3. Doak Walker Award
4. Biletnikoff Award
5. Lombardi Award
6. Thorpe Award
7. Butkis Award

NFL
1. MVP
2. Rushing Yards
3. Receiving Yards
4. Sacks leader
5. Interceptions leader
6. Offensive Rookie of the Year
7. Defensive Rookie of the Year
8. Coach of the year
9. Comeback Player of the Year

Each of these predictions will be worth 20 bonus points.

Another new Prediction we are going to do this year is a college futility prediction.
You pick 1 team that starts off in the top 10 of the preseason AP poll that won't finish in the top 25 at the end of the regular season.  This prediction will be worth 20 points.

Last season that only effected 2 teams (USC and Georgia out of the preseason top 10)

The last new prediction is going to be the College Football Suprise of the year.  This is going to be the team that starts off the season outside of the AP top 25 but finishes the highest in the top 25 at the end of the regular season.  These are both before the bowl games.

This prediction is also worth 20 points.

Survivor Pool

The Survivor Pool point payout has already been listed above for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

The way this works is as follows.   You choose one team each week that you think will win the game.  If you get it right you move on to the next week.  If you're wrong you get a strike.  If you're wrong a second time, you're out.

You can only use each team once a season.

I'm going to add in one more point wrinkle here.  If you make it through week 9 (the halfway point in the season, you will get 10 points.  Just a little something for your time.

Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football will work the same as always

QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE/ RB/WR FLEX, WR/TE FLEX, DEF

10 Points for a regular season win.  and the bonus points have been listed above.

MONEY

Money is to be mailed to 1441 potomac Ave Apt 2: Pittsburgh, PA 15216 or put into the palm of my delicate hand.  Fee is $50 and I want the money before we draft, please.

If you want to send it through Pay Pal or any other online situation than I suggest you set up the pay pal for me or shove it directly up your ass.

Any rule that hasn't been listed here is subject to the rules of last year.  You can read those in the July 2015 archive of Football God VIII rules.

Football God VIII Final Results

So, the Superbowl is over, the individual awards are in, and we've got our final scores.

As far as the scoring in the last week of the season, it was pretttttyyyy anti-climactic.

Congrats to Rob and Gary on picking Todd Gurley as the Offensive Rookie of the Year.  That's the ONLY individual award anyone got.  Marcus Peters won Defensive POY, Cam Newton MVP, and Ron Rivera won Coach of the year.

Geiss was the only person who picked Denver to win the Superbowl in the pick'em giving him 10 points.

That's it.  That's the end of the points scored.  So here's where that puts our final scores.

1. Jim 763
2. Adam 707
3. Colin 680
4. Folden 634
5. Joe 624
6. Eplin 602
7. Rob 601
8. Voyten 591
9.  Geiss 569
10. Munez 564
11. Civ 524
12. Gary 485

Thoughts on the Final Scores:

Congrats to Jim on winning.  He took a victory in Fantasy Football and a strong showing in the predictions and rode it to victory. This is Jim's first title and 3rd time in the money.  Jim won $290 of the money.

I finished in 2nd place. I won $150 of the money.  This is my 4th time finishing in the top 2.  Winning the first Survivor Pool was the big difference between 2nd and 3rd for me, but I also was consistently above average in most other aspects.

Colin finished in 3rd and won his money back. This is Colin's 3rd cash in the last 4 years, keeping up a pretty consistent dominance.  Colin was runner up in the Fantasy League, and did above average in just about everything else.

Other Thoughts:

Well done to Joe. in 7 years of Football God he's never fallen below 5th place, which is pretty incredible.

Good job to Eplin finishing in the top half of the standings in his first year in the league.

Well done to Geiss for fighting out of the cellar.  Not too long ago, Geiss was in last, but he ended up being one of the highest scorers in the last 6 weeks to move up to 9th.

Lastly,  I want you guys to think of any changes you want to propose for Football God.  I'd like to get these changes proposed now and voted on while the season is still fresh in our minds.

Congratulations to our winners.

2-1 Update. Final one before the Winners

Hey fucks.  Here's a point update so we all know where we stand going into the final game of the season.

The only two people to get any points for either of the Super Bowl teams was Geiss and Munez who each got 20 points for picking the Broncos.

Joe and myself each got 15 points for having New England losing the AFC Championship.

Other than that a few people had picked a team or two right in the pick'em.

So, going into the last week of the season here are our totals.

1 Jim 763
2. Adam 707
3. Colin 680
4. Folden 634
5. Joe 624
6. Eplin 602
7. Voyten 591
8. Rob
9. Munez 564
10. Geiss 559
11. Civ 524
12. Gary 465

Here's how it can play out down the stretch.

Jim can only finish 1 or 2 at this point.  Colin is to far back to catch him.  For me to pass Jim, I would need 3 of these things to happen.

1. Jameis Winston to win OROY.
2. Vic Beasley to win Defensive ROY.
3. Mike Zimmer win Coach of the Year.
4. Andrew Luck win MVP.

I think it's safe to say that Luck and Beasley aren't going to win shit, so for all intents and purposes, Jim's our winner.  I've even sent his check to him in the mail today for 1st place.

2nd Place

I'm in 2nd place with a 27 point lead over Colin.  So here's how Colin can pass me?  Colin needs

1 or more of these to happen.

1.  Chip Kelly win coach of the year (no chance in hell)
2. Marcus Mariotta win ORookie of the year
3.  Leo Williams win D Rookie of the year.

It's unlikely that any of those will happen.  But, if it does, Colin would also need to pick over me in the Pick'em.

3rd Place

It's more likely that Colin is playing for 3rd.  And I'm not in any danger of falling out of the money, as I am only going to finish somewhere from 1st to 3rd (mathematically), and almost definetely 2nd.

Folden is 46 points behind Colin.  Folden would need 2 of these 4 things to happen, and also out pick Colin in the pick'em.

1. Aaron Rodgers win MVP
2. Amari Cooper win OROY
3. Eric Kendricks win DROY
4. Mike Zimmer win coach of the year.

So.  Overall it's likely that the money finishers are

1. Jim
2. Adam
3. Colin.

But nothing is for sure until Monday.  Hope you guys enjoy the Superbowl.
